Officine Civiche

A grassroots organization based in Ciampino, Italy.
Officine Civiche is a grassroots organization based in Ciampino, Italy, founded by a group of political activists in 2014.

Its mission is to take action for social justice, the protection of common goods, gender equality, environmental rights and the social inclusion of working people in Italy.

In 2017, it launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance a “scuola popolare” for children at risk of becoming early school leavers. In the meantime, Officine Civiche collected hundreds of signatures on a popular initiative to be submitted to the Municipality and implementing a regulation of participatory town-planning. During the Covid-19 emergency, the association launched a food program for communities and people who were left without an income due to the lockdown. We collected and brought food packages, assisted in the resolution of bureaucratic and legal problems, and helped in the compilation of welfare requests.

We strongly believe in bottom-up democracy, especially at the local level, as an instrument to build a future of popular sovereignty, plurinationality and continental integration — and to compete with the sprawling structures of global capitalism. We are fighting for a new model of production and consumption that respects the planet and future generations alike. We see feminism as a way of life — a structure of relating to one another — and believe that the struggle for gender equality can revolutionize all structures of power, production, reproduction, and care.
