The party was founded in 1998 by a coalition of activist groups rooted in grassroots struggles.
PSM has been actively involved in grassroots organising across diverse sectors — including plantation workers, the urban poor, farmers, students, indigenous communities, and general wage workers. The party promotes participatory democracy, a fair and inclusive economy, and social justice. PSM is committed to fighting for key issues in Malaysia such as living wages, affordable housing, universal public healthcare, social protection, pensions for all, free education, food security, and environmental justice.
