Red Alert: Audio Recordings Reveal Alleged Conspiracy in Honduras Elections

Statement from the Progressive International Observatory
The Progressive International Observatory expresses grave concern about the integrity of Honduras’s upcoming general elections on 30 November, following the release of disturbing audio recordings by Attorney General Joel Zelaya.

The recordings allegedly expose a coordinated plot by senior figures of the opposition National Party of Honduras (PNH), a member of the National Electoral Council (CNE), and elements within the armed forces to manipulate the will of the people and distort the results of the elections. The audios suggest infiltration of electoral observers, illicit agreements benefiting companies contracted for logistics, and strategies to pressure international actors — including the U.S. Embassy — not to recognize the results if the governing party’s candidate, Rixi Moncada, secures victory.

In one of the recordings, CNE councilor Cossette López — appointed to the institution by the National Party — allegedly states: “What matters is that they announce that Salvador Nasralla is winning, not Rixi Moncada.” The remark implies a plan to project a premature and misleading result to shape public perception before the official count is complete.

If verified by the ongoing investigation, these revelations would constitute one of the most alarming attempts to subvert popular sovereignty in Honduras since the restoration of democratic governance.

For decades, the Honduran people have endured the devastating consequences of coups, repression, and foreign interference. The manipulation of the democratic process ahead of next month’s vote threatens not only to undermine national sovereignty but also to unleash a new wave of violence, dispossession, and forced migration.

From the Observatory of the Progressive International, we join the growing call for an immediate, public, and independent investigation into all implicated officials — and for robust guarantees of international electoral monitoring to ensure a peaceful and transparent election this November.

The Honduran people — and only the Honduran people — must determine the destiny of their great nation.
